Expert Therapeutics
Pillar 3: Expert Therapeutics; Defining “Commanders of Medicine”
At DeBartolo Meta-University, our goal for patient care goes beyond the traditional “Expert in Medicine.” Drawing from my 37 years of experience as an Honorary Commander of the 6th Medical Group at MacDill Air Force Base, we aspire to cultivate “Commanders of Medicine.” A Commander of Medicine is not only an expert in their field but also oversees the entire medical process, including scheduling, preoperative areas, operating rooms, nursing staff, scrubbers, postoperative recovery, and follow-up care. This comprehensive control is essential for patient survival and success.
Such a title and responsibility are rarely granted in for-profit hospitals due to the lack of control doctors have over their designated areas and functions. We honor and respect doctors with this level of expertise and control, and we bestow the title of Commander of Medicine upon them. This title has significant meaning and is used in our correspondence and patient interactions.
Understanding Therapeutics
Therapeutics refers to the treatment and care of a patient to prevent and combat disease or alleviate pain or injury. Derived from the Greek word “therapeutikos,” meaning “inclined to serve,” therapeutic care at DeBartolo Meta-University focuses on early detection and prevention, especially of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Using advanced imaging techniques and liquid biopsy, we aim to detect diseases early, even when patients appear healthy.
Once a diagnosis is established, the correct treatment is crucial. With a staggering 67% rate of incorrect diagnoses or treatments in modern medicine, finding the best doctor for your specific condition is essential. We facilitate connections with top medical professionals and provide examples of successful treatments over the past 30 years. We also offer Zoom consultations involving your family, primary care doctor, our Cardio-Oncologist, and the Commander of Medicine or Surgery to review your medical history, imaging, and biopsy data together.
Personalized Patient Interactions
We prioritize meeting patients where they are, whether in person or via Zoom, ensuring seamless connectivity regardless of location. Our offices in Tampa, Jacksonville Beach, and Whitefish, Montana, are equipped with advanced software and hardware to facilitate these interactions.
For over 30 years, we have maintained close relationships with our patients through various communication methods, including iPhone, Webex, GoToMeeting, and Zoom. We offer continuous support and advocacy, empowering patients in their healthcare journeys.
Gathering and Managing Medical Data
The American healthcare system often suffers from data mismanagement, with overworked physicians using templates to fill in patient records. This results in duplicated, unreliable data stored in the cloud, which is difficult to access and verify. At DeBartolo Meta-University, we obtain original imaging DVDs and perform our own analyses, avoiding biased reports.
We also utilize AI to extract meaningful data from cluttered records and patient logs from wearable devices for early diagnosis. For example, early detection of conditions like lupus can be made possible through AI analysis of daily activity logs.
We frequently request patient profiles from hospitals to review and print necessary data and examine images directly. Our meticulous approach ensures that test results are verified through retesting.

Case Study – ‘William the Wallace’
The first time I met William, it was in an emergency, and he was the center of it.
The hospital operator sounded the alarm with the emergency call words, “Code Blue, Pre-op Area! Code Blue, Pre-op Area!” Robb and I were drinking coffee in the doctors’ lounge, just around the corner and down the hall from pre-op. Like racehorses breaking out of the gate, we were down the hall and around the corner to meet our new patient in less than 30 seconds…
